10 Most Expensive TV Shows Of All Time

4. Game Of Thrones - $6 Million Per Episode

HBOHBOFor those of you who clicked on the article just to find out where Game of Thrones lands, here it is. With an approximate $6 million cost per episode, Game of Thrones is among the most expensive shows ever produced. However, it is also the most successful show HBO has ever made so the chances of its large costs leading to it being cancelled are teeny-tiny. It should come as no surprise that a show which features hundreds of characters and unique sets in a world of fantasy (oh, and dragons!) costs a lot to make. However, the actual cost of an episode will actually range between $5 million and $8 million depending on what exactly it shows. The famous Blackwater episode which featured the first epic fight of the series cost around $8 million to make. However, that fight was topped this year with The Watchers on the Wall, an episode that concentrated solely on the fight at Castle Black and cost around $10 million to make. The first season of Game of Thrones cost around $60 million. The second one had a reported budget which was around 15% larger so approximately $70 million. Each subsequent season has been more costly than the last so we can expect it to become perhaps even the most expensive TV show in history by the time it is done.
