While there has been much discussion and general disappointment in regards the change to Who lore because of the last series, there is one significant issue that has been glossed over. For the third time in five series, we have been delivered exactly the same climax.

The idea of Missy teaming up with the Cybermen to take on Peter Capaldi's Doctor in the 8th season was a clever one, that proved to be a new and innovative way of combining iconic Who villains into the same plot thread. A couple of seasons later though, Moffat once more went to the Master/Missy and Cybermen combo, with a been there done that feel apparent.

It is therefore staggering that Chibnall has borrowed this same premise again for this season's finale, and shows how few original ideas he really has. There was a slight variation here with the idea of the Lone Cyberman and The Master trying to outmanoeuvre each other, but it's essentially the same old story again.

Doctor Who has a cavalcade of villains to choose from, so there is just no excuses for digging up the same plots. Some may be excited that the Daleks are returning at Christmas, but it's really just another sign that the show has nothing new to offer.

With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
