This may seem incredibly harsh, but Chris Chibnall just doesn't seem like the right man to lead the show. He was never a brilliant writer of individual episodes as Moffat was, and seems to be lacking in ideas for new and innovative story arcs. He also suffers from being too much of a fan boy, his latest twist indicative of a fan theory he desperately wanted to be included, irrespective of the ramifications for the show.

Chibnall is definitely a quality writer, the first series of Broadchurch testament to this, while episodes like 'Spyfall' and 'Ascension of the Cybermen' were the best Who episodes he's written. But his obsession with the environmental and issue of the week exploration lead to poor episodes that display a complete lack of awareness of what the fans are actually after.

Adding to these problems is the bizarre disconnect between the views of critics and that of fans, giving Chibnall a false impression he's on the right track. While everyone has a right to their opinion, it is bewildering how many episodes that are loathed by so many fans still get decent reviews from critics.

Chibnall would be best to get some focus groups in from former fans of the show and figure out why they turned off in the first place. This is far more likely to provide answers than from hateful Twitter users or reviewers who are far too easy to please.

With all the suave and sophistication of any Aussie half way through a slab, Luke will critique every minute detail of films and shows from all eras- unless it's 1990's Simpsons episodes, because they're just perfect
