Last Film Entry: Psycho (1998)

What's going on? 25 years ago, Anthony Perkins portrayed Norman Bates for the final time in Psycho IV: The Beginning, almost bringing the franchise to a close after 30 years. Although Universal attempted to relaunch it from the ground up in 1998 with Vince Vaughn in Perkins' place, the Gus Van Sant-directed film proved needless and forgettable, serving as the character's last appearance on the big screen.

While Bates and the Psycho brand will surely resurface in theaters somewhere down the line, the franchise reemerged from hibernation to great success on the small screen in the last few years. Since 2013, A&E's Bates Motel has been telling the story of Norma and Norman Bates pre-Psycho, portrayed by Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore respectively.

This summer, the network renewed the series for a fourth and fifth season airing in 2016 and 2017, ensuring that us fans have something to look forward to for the next two years.
