Netflix's affinity for adapting graphic novels outside of the DC and Marvel umbrella has already produced hits like The Umbrella Academy, so it's hardly surprising that the streaming giant has continued to bring some equally great but lesser-known comic book content to life this year. And it all kicked off with October Faction.

Set in a small town, it follows monster hunting couple Deloris and Fred Allen as they trade the big cities of the world for a more quiet townscape when something wicked this way blows in their home town. And from there, they're forced to continue doing the supernatural deeds they do while keeping their own identities as part of the organization known as The October Faction a secret. Oh yeah, and they've to fill their twin teenagers in on the pleasantries of their not-so-normal life.

The monster-hunting genre is always going to be a tricky one to crack - with staples like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and (the first five seasons of) Supernatural being considered the yardsticks - but October Faction offers its own unique contribution to the genre. The characters are well-rounded, the writing is admirably quirky and its thoroughly edge-of-seat, making the 10-episode season fly past without dragging.

Yes, it's a little too trippy at times, and there are things that don't necessarily make sense, but let's just hope it gets a second season to answer all of those questions you'll undoubtedly be left with.
