10. Dare Me

Im Not Okay With This
Netflix

Dare Me might not have been created by Netflix - it airs on the USA Network in the U.S. - but it is distributed internationally on the streaming service (in the same way that Riverdale is), and the first season just landed.

Based on the Megan Abbott novel, the show is set in a small midwestern town and follows the exploits of the local high school cheerleading squad, specifically their reaction to the arrival of a new coach Colette and how jealousy and (a not-so-underlying quest for supremacy) drives them to take part in some troubling actions.

A suspenseful thriller that doesn't quite nail everything in the way that the novel does, it is a much more coherent version of what Riverdale could have been had it not gone off the campy deep-end after the first season. And its addictive nature makes up for any shortcomings, highlighting some unexpected intensities of high school cheerleading.
