There are so any Sci-Fi shows out there now that it's impossible to keep up with them all. It's not a bad problem to have really, but it's one that leads to many shows being overlooked, cancelled or buried by the hype surrounding the big, popular shows.

In a time where everyone is finding themselves with a lot of extra time to stream, it's easy just to jump on the bandwagon and watch whatever is currently trending. However, the most popular shows or the most highly rated shows aren't always for everyone.

Why not dig a little deeper, go back to something you missed the first time around or even take a chance on something you'd heard wasn't all that great in the first place?

Take a chance and you might just fall in love with one of these underrated gems.

15. Mars

National Geographic

Mars is a docudrama depicting a fictional mission to the red planet in 2033. It follows the trials and tribulations of the pioneering crew as they set up a scientific research facility and colony, millions of miles from home.

It's a decent sci-fi drama made all the more interesting by the use of real-life interviews from present-day scientists, intermixed with fictional interviews with the crew prior to setting off.

Whilst Mars is a fictional account of an expedition to another planet, the interviews and discussions of hard science lend the show a level of realism that other shows either lack or don't bother with.

An essential watch for anyone interested in space travel and the cosmos.
