Doctor Who: 5 Reasons Missy Should Become A Recurring Villain

5. It Would Push The Gallifrey Plot Forwards

Since the 50th anniversary, the quest to find the Doctor€™s home planet of Gallifrey has been a key subplot, hanging over the demise of the Eleventh Doctor and being a large part of the Twelfth Doctor€™s emotional arc at the end of Series 8. Of course, the Time Lord has the rather key problem of not knowing where Gallifrey is hidden despite knowing that it€™s locked away in some alternate dimension somewhere. Helpful. There's very little potential for this plot to move away from where it€™s being kept on the backburner unless something changes or the Doctor finds the planet by a complete fluke, however. The former is probably the best choice of those two, since the Doctor getting home by sheer luck would be narratively unsatisfying, especially since it's essentially what happened in The Time of the Doctor. As fans saw in Death in Heaven, Missy claims to know where Gallifrey is hidden and even lies when to the Doctor when she eventually reveals its coordinates. As such, introducing a Time Lord who actually knows the location of Gallifrey is probably the best way to bring about its eventual return.
