10 Major UFC Signings That Failed Miserably

8. Jorge Santiago

Brazilian middleweight, Jorge Santiago, has had a stellar career outside of the UFC, competing against an abundance of big name fighters in a variety of different promotions. In fact, between 2007-2010, he could easily lay claim to being a top-5 middleweight in the world without many people batting an eyelid.

However, other than his UFC debut win against the significantly over-matched Justin Levens, Santiago was pretty much obliterated in some violent way in nearly every bout he had with the promotion. His first run in the UFC was halted after Alan Belcher and Chris Leben brutally knocked him unconscious.

After going on a 11-1 run outside of the the promotion, the UFC snapped him up again, only for heavy-handed slugger, Brian Stann, to crack him with vicious punches and lay him out on the canvas. Jiu-jitsu legend Demian Maia only added further misery to his second stint with the promotion.

Santiago was given one last shot at UFC on Fuel TV 7, coming in as a short-notice replacement to face Gunnar Nelson. However, the third time wasn't going to be the charm as Nelson beat him by decision, making his UFC record an extremely unflattering 1-5 before he was released for the final time.
