Perhaps the biggest match of Rob Van Dam's WWE career.

After winning the Money in the Bank guaranteed title shot at WrestleMania 22 in a thrilling ladder match, Van Dam opted against the surprise cash-in that Edge had used to great effect earlier in the year, instead choosing to set his date with John Cena well in advance.

Van Dam would take on the champ at ECW's second One Night Stand pay-per-view, in front of a partisan crowd at the Hammerstein Ballroom. While the action was pretty damn (Dam?) good, it was the impassioned crowd that took this one to another level.

They absolutely hated WWE's poster boy and loved their homegrown hero unconditionally. There was the famous 'IF CENA WINS WE RIOT' sign, as well as the crowd returning Cena's t-shirt to him as he tried to throw it in the crowd. Several times. That was cute.

After a typically epic match full of weapons and brawling and ref bumps and interference, RVD was able to pin Cena as Paul Heyman counted the three, giving Van Dam his first (and only) WWE Title victory! It was a great feelgood moment for a wrestler that deserved to experience it years earlier.

Van Dam was more energised than he had been in years here, clearly relishing in the crowd response and the high-stakes situation. Cena, for his part, looked so comfortable in the role of de-facto heel.

Hmmm....
