10 Awesome Storylines That WWE Totally Ruined
7. Vince McMahon's Illegitimate Son
Mr. McMahon might be one of the most important characters in WWE history, but he’s been in more than his fair share of loathsome angles over the years.
In 2007, WWE devised the idea of killing Mr. McMahon off. This petered out in light of the Chris Benoit tragedy, but it was later revealed that McMahon had faked his own death to see what people really thought of him, and he returned to power.
A few weeks later, Jonathan Coachman informed McMahon that a paternity suit regarding an illegitimate long lost child had been filed against him. The mystery slowly started to unravel, and after a few weeks, it was revealed that a male member of WWE’s roster was the child, and whenever Vince passed away, this illegitimate son would inherit the company.
Mr. Kennedy became embroiled in the angle after claimed that he was Vince’s son, but this was soon rubbished by McMahon’s lawyers. Instead, it was later revealed Hornswoggle was the son, but after months of McMahon family “tough love,” JBL uncovered that Hornswoggle was in fact Finlay’s son, not Vince’s.
It transpired that the whole charade was a scam devised by Shane, Stephanie, and Linda McMahon: a completely unsatisfactory conclusion. As daft as the angle was at times, it was also a fantastic opportunity to cement a promising young wrestler as part of wrestling’s most powerful dynasty, and secure his status as WWE’s next top heel. Instead, WWE gave the spot to a leprechaun. Nice one, guys.
