10 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Jun 10)

Marq Quen breaks out vs. Cody; Jon Moxley vs. Brian Cage gets ultra-violent.

All Elite Wrestling is in table-setting mode at the moment.

The build to Fyter Fest is underway. Slowly. Its first few weeks haven’t been rife with huge, game-changing events, but gradually unwinding angles, segments, and other storyline developments, establishing multiple threads that are yet to be tied together. Guys like Chris Jericho and Cody have their fingers in several pies right now. Brodie Lee has moved onto smaller prey after losing to Jon Moxley, FTR’s long-awaited feud with The Young Bucks is being teased through nudges and pokes, and a Sammy Guevara turn that won’t happen for months (if not years) is being foreshadowed. Small steps, not giant leaps. Greater advances can wait for the road to All Out.

That isn’t to say the show lacks heat, though: just look at how Moxley’s programme with Brian Cage and Taz unravelled last night.

Our card saw Cody defending his TNT Championship against Marq Quen, FTR’s in-ring debut against The Butcher and the Blade, and chaos in the women’s division as Penelope Ford and Nyla Rose met Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander. Elsewhere, the Best Friends and Orange Cassidy worked The Inner Circle in trios action and Chris Jericho returned to the announce booth - albeit briefly.

Let’s light the fuse…
