10 Wrestling Matches That Ruled With Builds That Sucked

2. The Rock Vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (WWE WrestleMania X-Seven)

There's an edit of the iconic 'My Way' video package that WWE produced for WrestleMania X-Seven's monster main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock that preserves the entire programme in amber, and why not?

As much a celebration of the era's contribution to wrestling history as a blockbuster pay-per-view headliner, the pillars of WWE's most successful period were being pitched against one another in the minds of the audience long before it was made official.

The story was easy, but as if to clue viewers in that the good times were starting to end in front of their very eyes, WWE complicated things in a fashion most laborious.

The aforementioned edited clip snips just about all mention of Austin's then-wife Debra and her inclusion as 'The Great One's manager in the weeks leading up to the event. 'The Rattlesnake' himself did the same in the legendary sit-down interview with Rock and Jim Ross as if to acknowledge that the (by then, dropped) angle had been a bust.

These were wise moves across the board from those with the wisdom to make them; this was about the WWE Championship and supremacy over a fierce - in reality, the fiercest - rival.
