11 Mentalities That Are Killing WWE

10. Feature The Authority Prominently Because NBC Said So

Have you ever wondered why Stephanie McMahon is the biggest heel on WWE TV right now? Or why almost every RAW opens with a 20-minute promo by the Authority instead of, you know, a wrestling match? The answer is, because NBC wants it to be this way. In 2014, when WWE were negotiating a new TV deal with their carriers, NBC representatives favored the segments involving the Authority storyline more than anything else. They believe that this particular storyline is best for business (sorry), and so NBC €˜suggested€™ that this become the centerpiece of WWE shows, especially RAW. What this means is, WWE now has their hands tied behind their backs: they have to cater to NBC in order to maintain good relations with them so that their TV deal can continue. The WWE can€™t make any changes without possibly aggravating their stakeholders, and NBC is one of them. So get used to the Authority having such a prominent role (if you haven€™t already), because until WWE gets a better TV deal, or if they make NBC change their position on the Authority, it€™ll be a permanent fixture of WWE programming.
