4 Ups & 9 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Aug 30)
8. A Week Late, A Dollar Short
Raw brought us an update from Goldberg on his status via taped interview.
The Hall-of-Famer told everyone he had some ligament damage and was going to have to have knee surgery, which presumably means he’ll be out of action for a bit, so revenge will have to wait. He then noted that his 15-year-old son Gage still had a bad shoulder and neck due to Bobby Lashley’s attack afterward.
However, this update came nine days after SummerSlam, and not on last week’s Raw, when it should have happened. We had to wait a full week to find out that Goldberg was injured and (conveniently) would not be around for the next PPV – but probably will somehow be ready for the trip to Saudi Arabia (and accompanying payday) in October.
It was unconscionable to think a father wouldn’t be raging about someone attacking his son, so the time to have Goldberg respond was almost immediately, last week, not waiting a full week to weigh in. The video was fine as-is and would have worked last week just as well.
Timing is everything, and this time, it turned a potential up into a down.
