Gee, it’s a good thing everyone crowded the ring to open Raw and jawed about wanting to fight, or else we might not have had a main event for the program!

More than a half-dozen superstars spent the first 15 minutes arguing about who gets to fight for which title, which ended with the de facto general managers Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville making two title matches for later in the show.

It’s a simple gripe, but seriously: What was going to take place on this show if you didn’t have the verbal scrum at the beginning? Sure, you can excuse the United States Championship open challenge, but beyond that, this is a crutch WWE has relied on for years, and it’s more than worn thin.

The occasional impromptu match or open challenge is fine, but when every show starts with the “main event” being booked in the opening segment, that requires you to believe that WWE showed up for Raw without a card in mind. And that’s a logic gap that makes your head hurt.
