7 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (July 10)

6. Comedy Kane

Kane Daniel Bryan Team Hell No

Last week, we went in on SmackDown's awful comedy writing. This week, we flip the script.

This is a minor 'Up,' but if you're going to chastise the company for doing something badly one night, you must be willing to acknowledge them for righting the course. Kane and Daniel Bryan made an NSYNC joke in the opening segment that was then paid off in a later interaction with The New Day. That's it, but it worked.

At this stage in his career, Kane's most compelling role might be Bud Abbott. He's a solid straight man in a comedy act. 'The Demon' isn't credible for a competitor of his age and physical condition, and Miz wasn't lying when he called the 'Big Red Machine' a run down nostalgia act. Forcing him into that role damaged Braun Strowman's heat in late 2017, so here's hoping WWE don't pull the telegraphed turn on Bryan, and instead milk Team Hell No for all it's worth.
