8 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (10 June)
1. Home-Field Advantage
Kenny Omega vs. Moose, an IMPACT World Championship match, is going to take place at Daily’s Place. That’s huge.
This was confirmed during the show-opening summit between Scott D’Amore, Don Callis, and Tony Khan. Callis, still in the role of IMPACT EVP onscreen, did his usual schtick of hyping up Omega, while also insisting on keeping the title match one-on-one rather than having Sami Callihan added in. Why? Because ‘The Death Machine’ is blacklisted from several, several promotions across the globe, AEW included if that’s the drift ol’ Tony boy was going with.
‘The Invisible Hand’ got his wish, on the condition that the winner of the Against All Odds outing will then go into Slammiversary on 17 July to defend against Sami on pay-per-view. Scott was fine with it, and so was Tony. This ruled.
There are two tantalising World Championship bouts to look forward to now, with – presumably – both going down in front of a live audience, assuming fans will be at AEW’s home venue for the Omega vs. Moose clash. This is exactly what IMPACT needed. There was already an aura of excitement, however, an announcement of this magnitude has completely blown that up. IMPACT’s main event scene just makes sense; it’s that simple.
