9 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About CM Punk's UFC Debut
9. Any Hype There Was Has Stalled Due To Delays
As mentioned, the CM Punk debut was derailed once again by back surgery to correct lingering issues from his time in the WWE. The fact that he had already been through several treatment options and knew that surgery was pending made his attendance in the cage with newly announced opponent Mickey Gall at UFC Fight Night 82 something of a cheat: why bother promoting a fight that you know is going to be delayed? Nor is it the first delay: Punk's jump to the UFC was announced in December 2014. Since then, there was a delay in him finding a gym, then the constant stream of potential debut dates, a delay for shoulder surgery, and now back surgery. With each setback, fans care just a little bit less, and there's a question as to just how much impact Punk will now make in his debut. It has frankly gone from must-see TV to "I'll read about it in the recap tomorrow morning."
