More than a month has elapsed between WWE pay-per-views for the first time in a year, but the wait is almost over. WWE No Mercy takes places this coming Sunday, some 35 days after Brock Lesnar stood tall at the end of SummerSlam back on 20 August, and it is looking like it could be one of the best WWE shows of 2017.

Lesnar is scheduled to defend the WWE Universal Championship against 'The Monster Among Men' Braun Strowman, arguably RAW’s most exciting performer of the year so far. It is a match that could have easily been saved for WrestleMania 34, an old-fashioned hoss fight between two true behemoths.

Speaking of WrestleMania matches, John Cena and Roman Reigns will go one-on-one for the very first time, in a bout that many believed would also be saved for the 'Show of Shows'. Elsewhere all of RAW’s championships will be on the line at No Mercy, including The Miz’s somewhat forgotten Intercontinental strap.

As we head towards the latter part of the year, focus slowly moves to WrestleMania season. WWE has a chance to put some vital pieces in place for 'Mania this coming Sunday - provided it makes the right decisions of course.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
