CM Punk has hit out at WWE following the company's latest batch of releases, as the promotion cut six wrestlers from its talent roster yesterday.

In response to Bloody Disgusting editor in chief John Squires, who had tweeted about the releases, Punk called out WWE's "creatively bankrupt nincompoops."

"It’s like a movie with a blockbuster budget and cast, but if it’s written by creatively bankrupt nincompoops specifically for an audience of one, in a language nobody understands anymore," he tweeted. "It’s.....trash. But people watch it because they like movies."

Aleister Black, Braun Strowman, Lana, Ruby Riott, Santana Garrett, and Buddy Murphy were all cut loose by WWE yesterday. Black has claimed that WWE told him "budget cuts" were the reason he was being let go, despite the promotion generating record profits in 2020.

Punk has never been shy of airing his true thoughts on WWE and its practices since departing the promotion acrimoniously in 2014. He returned to the company's universe via WWE Backstage in November 2019, working as an analyst on the studio show, though his contract was with FOX rather than WWE itself.
