Hiroshi Tanahashi's AEW Chris Jericho Tribute Video Had Nothing To Do With NJPW

Looks that AEW/NJPW partnership is still some way off.

NJPW legend Hiroshi Tanahashi's recent 30th Anniversary video tribute to Chris Jericho on Dynamite reportedly had nothing to do with AEW or NJPW, according to the Wresting Observer Newsletter.

With Tanahashi appearing alongside a number of other big names, including the likes of Kevin Smith, Shaquille O'Neill and Slash, in video-form for Jericho's 30th Anniversary show, many fans wondered whether this was a sign that both AEW and NJPW were willing to work with each other again going forward.

However, the Observer has now noted that neither company had anything to do with the video. Tanahashi and Jericho have a great deal of respect for one another and the former was more than happy to take part in the video tribute, recording his part just two hours after being asked to do so.

NJPW officials also confirmed that they have a deep respect for 'Le Champion' and would never have had a problem with any of their stars wanting to be part of his celebration. This explains why Tanahashi was able to make this rare All Elite appearance.

With all that being said, the NJPW star did hint at possibly facing Jericho again in the future - maybe even ten times more! So, could we be treated to another titanic cross-promotional showdown in the not too distant future?
