Jon Moxley On Why WWE Promos "F***ing Suck"

The former AEW World Champion shoots hard on WWE's scripted promos.

Jon Moxley has cited WWE's insistence on "jamming 5,000 f***ing words in there that aren't necessary" as the main reason why the company's promos "f***ing suck," doing so while hosting a special Q&A episode of Renee Paquette's Oral Sessions podcast.

The former AEW World Champion made these comments while talking about how writing his upcoming book, MOX, compares to his promos (h/t Fightful for the transcriptions):-

“It's like a, kinda like a wrestling match or a promo. That's why WWE promos f***ing suck, cause they jammed 5,000 f***ing words in there that aren't necessary. Say what you want to say, mean what you want to say, get your point across. ‘I'm going to beat your ass on Saturday night because I don't like you,’ boom, done."

Moxley then went in on the "extra sh*t," showing his preference for simplicity over the superfluous:-

"Sometimes in a match, it's like, okay, we planned on all these f***ing spots, but what is this story? What are we trying to get at? You're the good guy, you’re the bad guy. You're big, you're small, you're tall, you're short. Whatever the contrast of styles or the story we're telling is, why do we have all this? Sometimes you just look at it and go, you know what? We don't need all that extra sh*t."

The former Dean Ambrose hasn't been shy of criticising WWE since departing the company in April 2019, famously shredding the promotion's practices in an incendiary Talk is Jericho interview the following month. Understandable, given the promotion had him make off-colour comments on his real-life friend Roman Reigns' leukaemia during his final run.

AEW, unlike WWE, does not enforce strict scripting on its performers' promos - and it's fair to say this suits Moxley better than the Stamford style.
