Kurt Angle recently turned down the opportunity to manage Matt Riddle on WWE SmackDown.
This is according to the Olympian himself, who told CBR.com that "it just wasn't the right time."
"I think Matt Riddle is going to be one of the faces of WWE," Kurt said. "He has all the ability. His personality is great. At first it's a little odd, but once you get to know him, he's very likeable, and that's what he's going to get from the fans. They're going to love this kid."
Other than the timing being off, Angle said there were a number of other reasons behind him declining the opportunity but didn't elaborate. He refused to rule out the possibility of working with Riddle in the future, however, saying "you never know" when asked.
Angle introduced the former UFC fighter to main roster fans on last week's episode of SmackDown, having refereed his NXT farewell match against Timothy Thatcher just two days prior. The Olympic gold medallist is currently working without a WWE contract following his Black Wednesday (15 April) release but is expected to re-up with the promotion before long.
As for Riddle? It appears the sky is the limit.
