News that this week's episode of AEW Dynamite had been subjected to significant rewrites broke during the show itself on Wednesday, with 'Hangman' Adam Page's COVID-19 diagnosis wreaking havoc on whatever company president and creative lead Tony Khan had planned for the evening.

Although specifics weren't forthcoming at the time, Dave Meltzer has since stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that a big angle featuring Page and CM Punk had to be canned. This would have been done to lead to the announcement of the duo's AEW World Championship match for Double Or Nothing 2022 on Sunday 29 May.

What this angle would have entailed is currently unknown, but there's a chance the promotion may opt to run it next week instead - provided Page is healthy.

AEW ended up announcing Punk vs. Page following Dynamite's opening match between Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler. Punk, who was a guest commentator for that bout, hit the ring when it was done, cutting a fiery babyface promo reflecting on everything he'd done in AEW up to that point.

Punk vs. Page was the only match confirmed for Double Or Nothing 2022 at the time of writing.
