It took a bit of time, but WWE finally mentioned Cody Rhodes' infamous throne-smashing incident on Raw Monday night.

Seth Rollins and Rollins were engaged in a heated war of words when the Drip God finally let loose on his Hell in a Cell opponent, saying he had tired of Cody's pandering to the fans and how he left WWE six years ago because he couldn't hack it in the company. But then Rollins tore into Rhodes as the loyal WWE soldier, noting that Cody and his "little friends" tried to tear down WWE - presumably an indirect reference to AEW - and when that didn't work, he "came crawling back" to the 'E.

That's when Rollins switched to focusing on Rhodes trying to come back as a conquering hero, saying that Cody couldn't take a sledgehammer to a throne and then try to take the throne from Seth. Rhodes infamously destroyed a Triple H-inspired throne with a sledgehammer during his entrance at AEW Double or Nothing 2019, which was viewed as a direct shot at the WWE executive and 14-time world champion.

Unlike many other veteran superstars, WWE hasn't just glossed over the accomplishments and presentation of Rhodes upon his return to the company. He's been largely presented the same as he had been in AEW, right down to the American Nightmare character and entrance music. But they've resisted going heavy into some of the more pointed references.

However, this seemed to fit Rollins' gripes with Rhodes really well and actually felt like a natural extension of his anger, rather than some tacked-on dialogue designed to get a pop for using insider info for the more attentive fans.
