10 WWE Superstars That Were Pushed And Then Punished
2. The Great Khali
Former World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali, no less. As Diamond Dallas Page infamously said during his debuting promo in WWE that if you want to make an impression you go after the biggest dog in the yard. Khali certainly did that. Like Page, Khali went after The Undertaker. And got the better of him with consummate ease. Making The Deadman look like a jobber, the likes we had ever seen before. End of push number one. After Taker finally got one over the would-be Punjabi Playboy, he was drafted to ECW for a while before making the switch to RAW. He went straight after the WWE Championship, mixing it with the likes of John Cena, Shawn Michaels and Edge. Khali was then drafted to SmackDown and began feuding with Batista. The pair were scheduled for a match at The Great American Bash, however, because Edge vacated the World Heavyweight Championship due to injury, a 20 man Battle Royal was held for the title. Khali won after eliminating both Kane and Batista in one move, winning his first World Heavyweight Championship. He held the strap for 61 days before dropping it to The Animal. Then, it seems, WWE woke up to what they actually had on their hands with Khali as he was relegated to a more comedic role. Something that was utterly cringeworthy at times. We could have done without the whole kiss Khali schtick. Nevertheless, he was popular in the role which suited him down to the ground. At the end of the day however, the way he was booked in the latter days of his WWE run certainly looked like he was being punished compared to the way he was brought into the company.
