The Miz Headed For "Key" WWE WrestleMania 32 Match?

Former WWE Champion's quick win over Dolph Ziggler may have been building up to something larger.

On this week€™s Raw, The Miz scored a rare victory after a 63-second smash and grab over rival Dolph Ziggler. What may have seemed like a simple case of directionless booking (or the latest burial for Dolph) was, quite possibly, building up to something more.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, The Miz was given the victory in order to make him look strong heading into a bout at WrestleMania - described by Meltzer as a "key match." The bout is scheduled to be a multi-man contest also involving Dolph, but any other rumors - including the possibility that the match is for Kevin Owens's Intercontinental Title - are just speculation at this point. WWE decision-makers felt that Miz needed the win more than Dolph, who has scored a few victories over Owens in the past month. The Miz headlined WrestleMania in 2011, defeating John Cena to retain the WWE Championship. Since then, he's struggled to make an impact on the card. In 2012, he was part of a Raw versus Smackdown 12-man tag, and in 2013, he won the Intercontinental Title on the pre-show. For the past two years, he's been an also-ran in the annual battle royal.
