Which AEW Star Was "Depressed" After Failing His WWE Tryout?
"Can I even keep doing this? What’s the point?"
Reaching the promised land of WWE was the main goal when Hangman Page decided he wanted to become a pro wrestler. That's why, following a failed tryout when he was "18-19", the AEW man fell into depression when he didn't make the cut.
How times have changed.
Page told Wrestling Inc that he's delighted to be part of a culture change in pro wrestling after so many years of WWE-led dominance. AEW has given wrestlers another place to make good money and live out their dreams, and that's something Hangman is grateful for.
He didn't feel that way back when WWE informed him that his tryout wasn't a success; if he was "18-19", then Page's tryout must've taken place around 2009-2010. That'd mean he didn't get to work out in front of officials in the resplendent WWE Performance Center.
Hangman's trial likely took place in an empty arena before fans filed in for that evening's show.
Being knocked back was hard to take for the future AEW star. He wondered if he should even bother to keep plugging away as a wrestler. If WWE didn't want him, "what was the point?".
