Why One More AEW Signing Would Cause A Wrestling Earthquake

Vince McMahon AEW
WWE/AEW

What's somewhat ironic about wrestling earthquakes is that the cracks that form are only those between opposing organisations. A legendary angle, match, promo or signing can shake the wrestling world to its core, but the promotion that books it doesn't feel any aftershock.

Seismic events, typically, are a best case scenario for a company in control of them, and only a natural disaster for those on the outside looking in.

Vince McMahon knows this, and he cannot be naive about it happening again should potential AEW arrivals Punk and Bryan be joined by yet another blockbuster signing at the same time. Not least because he's experienced it from both sides.

"Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it" is an exhausted quote amongst those in wrestling, but one that gets ignored over and over again anyway. McMahon's brilliance was once such that his company became a slice of Americana, but when he failed to see how fleeting it all was, the man he'd chosen to fly his flag planted it firmly in the ground of an insurgent opposition.

He need only look to the screen in his office to watch it all in glorious high definition...
