WrestleMania 36 Will Be Over TWO Nights, Gronk Hosts
In another first, we're getting double 'Mania...
When WWE announced that WrestleMania was the latest high profile victim of the current global malaise and would be going behind closed doors in the Performance Centre, you could hear the collective concern about a 7-hour empty gymnasium show echo around the world. But you needn't have been concerned, because that's not what's happening.
Thanks to a tweet from Rob Gronkowski - currently the subject of fervent rumours about his own possible signing with WWE - we now know that WrestleMania 36 is actually going to be a two night event spread over April 4th and 5th. Gronk himself will host the weekender event and will be appearing on SmackDown on Friday night to reveal more details.
This of course comes the same year that New Japan switched Wrestle Kingdom to a two day schedule back in January. Not that anyone's accusing anyone of anything here.
To be fair to WWE, 'Mania has seen a two day event for a few years now (and longer than just the weekend in actual fact) as other shows and linked events blossomed around the show-piece. They're just filling the gap here with everything else made impossible by the very precise circumstances.
Gronk's Twitter revelation - which comes off the back of surprisingly little chatter - was followed up by an official statement:
“WRESTLEMANIA® TOO BIG FOR JUST ONE NIGHT STAMFORD, Conn. – March 18, 2020 – WrestleMania, for the first time ever, will be held as a two-night event streaming on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and available on pay-per-view.The two-night pop culture extravaganza will be hosted by three-time Super Bowl Champion Rob Gronkowski. Tune in to SmackDown this Friday at 8 pm ET on FOX to see what Gronk has in store for WrestleMania. As previously announced, only essential personnel will be on the closed set during the production of WrestleMania.”
Presumably, this doesn't mean we're getting two separate 7 hour shows, because hoooo boy.
