WWE: CM Punk Contract Expiring In July - Will He Stay Or Go?

Cmpunk PWInsider reports that CM Punk's contract with WWE expires this coming July. As most WWE fans can recall, Punk's WWE deal was up in July of 2011 right around the time he won the WWE Title at Money in the Bank in Chicago. It's believed that it was a three year deal that would obviously expire in July of 2014. What did we learn from the last time the man that's known as "The Best In The World" had contract negotiations? That he is highly valued by WWE management. We also learned that it's great to have leverage in negotiations because after Punk re-signed with WWE he became a bigger star than he was before. Not only did he win the WWE Title at Money in the Bank 2011 (an awesome event, by the way), but he also won it a few months later at Survivor Series 2011. That was the first day of the epic 434 day WWE Title reign that Punk had that lasted until the 2013 Royal Rumble. Punk is 35 years old and does not appear to be a guy that is going to wrestle well into his 40s like some wrestlers do. He's been wrestling for about 15 years and due to a number of injuries that have accumulated, it's hard to know when he might stop. Will he leave? It seems unlikely. There are not that many other options for him. Sure, he could go wrestle for New Japan or his old stomping grounds in Ring of Honor, but it's not like those companies could pay him what WWE does or that he would be seen worldwide like he is as a WWE superstar. With that said, Punk doesn't appear to be a guy that is obsessed with fame or that cares to be in the public eye once he's done wrestling either. There's going to be a point in his life where he realizes he's made enough money, done all that there is to do and has nothing left to accomplish. There are two things out there that he hasn't done in WWE that could entice him to stick around. He has spoken about wanting to wrestle in the true main event of a WrestleMania, which means wrestling in the last match on the card. Presumably, that would mean a match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He could do that at the same time if he won a Royal Rumble and earned the WWE WHC Title shot at WrestleMania. That's a proverbial carrot that WWE could dangle in front of him. While I don't think Punk will leave WWE because it's the best spot for him, my best guess is that he will sign another three year extension and that could be it for him. It would allow him to stop before he turned 40 so that he can concentrate on whatever else he wants to do in life while he hopefully is in good health. Whatever happens, the future of CM Punk will be a big story in WWE in 2014 just like he was three years ago. Of course, if he could get another speech like the one in Las Vegas three years ago that would be a nice treat too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OS9wZGb_3g
