WWE Teases Kurt Angle As New Raw GM

Could it be true? Damn true?

Fan speculation and fantasy booking has been in full gear since the announcement of Kurt Angle "returning home" to WWE, headlining the 2017 Hall of Fame class. The prospect of a healthy Olympic gold medalist getting back in the ring, or at the very least playing a frequent onscreen role on WWE TV has WWE fans up in arms with excitement.

In one of their frequent list features published to WWE.com, the promotion named potential candidates to replace the newly-fired Mick Foley as Raw General Manager. The list is mostly comprised of people who will be involved in this Saturday evening's Hall of Fame ceremony, be it inductees or those with the honor of ushering them in.

There's also a callback to "Stone Cold" Steven Austin's time as the "sheriff" of Raw, suggesting he could be one of the options, but I think we all know that "The Texas Rattlesnake" is quite happy with the freedom his current life and schedule outside of wrestling provide him and I don't see him as a viable option for WWE.

The remaining names that we can probably rule out were Eric Bischoff (somewhat possible, but unlikely), Edge (reasons similar to Austin make him doubtful) and Jim Cornette (Hell may have gotten a bit cooler with his HoF appearance but it's not entirely frozen over yet).

That left one man to fill the void who is not only perfect for the gig, but is someone the WWE Universe has wanted to see in the role - any role, really - since the announcement of his return:

The site had this to say regarding the man who topped their list of potential candidates:

"Throughout his career, Kurt Angle has worn a lot of hats – sometimes literal ones of the tiny cowboy variety. Among the most pertinent of them, however, was his position as SmackDown’s General Manager for a time in 2004. Granted, Mr. McMahon put that to an end when he discovered Angle was feigning the neck issues that had led him to accept the job in the first place. Now, however, Angle is returning to WWE, and – as far as we know – he has no plans to put on the straps again. Therefore, the time is more opportune than ever for The Olympic Hero to assume the position of General Manager. Not only would Angle have plenty of wisdom to impart to a locker room that has followed the world-traveled path of his career, but the former World Champion and future WWE Hall of Famer is assured to stay true (damn true) to his past work."

We know that Angle wants to get back in the ring in the worst way, but we're also highly aware of WWEs reluctance to grant him that opportunity. This could be the ideal compromise to please all parties, giving Kurt the chance to show his new bosses that he's on the straight and narrow and able to perform without any risk to himself.

While lists like these pop up on WWE.com all the time, usually with nothing to them whatsoever, could this possibly be one that is actually foreshadowing the future?
