20 Video Game Villains You Never Realised Got The Last Laugh

If you won, why does it feel like a loss?

Video game villains don't tend to have a great track record when it comes to winning. Since their main opponent is you, the hero of the story, it is pretty much inevitable that they will be eventually defeated and then either become forgotten or be your personal punching bag every time you start a new playthrough.

Except not every villain is willing to simply lie down and accept they're never going to win. You might defeat them in battle or foil their plan, but they will still have the final laugh in the end.

Some video game villains don't lose when you win. You might think you have the upper hand, but the evildoer will have something up their sleeve that will make them the actual winner in the long run.

They still find a way to haunt you from beyond their grave, make their plan succeed, and generally make you feel that, despite you winning one battle, they won the entire war.

Be wary of the following villains. They will get the last laugh, even when you think you've defeated them.

20. Carlito Keyes - Dead Rising

The events of the zombie apocalypse shown in the first Dead Rising game are a result of a massive government conspiracy and one really angry Latin American man—Carlito Keyes.

Carlito serves as the game’s enigmatic antagonist that crosses fire with Frank at several points during the first half of the story.

You quickly learn that the man is responsible for unleashing the zombies onto the town of Willamette, and although his crimes eventually catch up to him, when he dies at the hands of a psycho butcher, you learn that in the end, Carlito got exactly what he wanted.

The only reason the dashing villain started the zombie apocalypse was because he wanted to punish the American government for accidentally releasing zombies onto his hometown of Santa Cabeza and expose their unethical experiments to the public, both of which he accomplishes during the Willamette outbreak.

However, as if that wasn't enough, Carlito's master plan is also the cause of the outbreak in Dead Rising 3, where we learn the man has secretly infected fifty children prior to the events of Dead Rising 1, so they could randomly turn into zombies and cause even more mayhem and destruction in his enemies' country.

Now that's some real dedication to revenge!
