20 Best Christmas Horror Movies You NEED To Watch
The seasonal horrors to keep you going throughout December.
Spooky Season may well have ended a good while ago, but dedicated horror fiends will of course want to keep the vibe going until the very end of the year. After all, Christmas is the season for killing, right? And while Christmas-themed horror movies are absolutely a niche subgenre, there's a magic to those films that manage to fuse the warm, fuzzy tones of a holiday picture with the over-the-top insanity of, say, a slasher flick or a dark fantasy film.
So, for anyone in the market for some yuletide-spiced horror, look no further than this collection of must-see romps. The following 20 movies range from bona fide genre classics you've probably seen to cult gems and even a couple of so-bad-they're-good offerings you may not know about.
As the weeks tick down until Christmas Day, these are the movies you can rely on to keep you in the Christmas spirit, even if they're far from family-friendly for the most part. If you've not seen these seasonal horror films yet, be sure to change that this holiday period.
20. Better Watch Out
Let's kick this list off with a Christmas-spiced horror film you should probably watch with as little prior knowledge as possible. So, we'll keep this vague.
Better Watch Out revolves around Ashley (Olivia DeJonge), a babysitter who must protect Luke (Levi Miller), the 12-year-old she's sitting for, from home intruders around Christmas.
Talk about a film that just sneaks up on you. Though you might think you know where this one is going from the jump, it's got some devilishly fun surprises in store as a seasonal riff on the typical home invasion horror-thriller.
Olivia DeJonge and Levi Miller are terrific as the embattled youngsters, and writer-director Chris Peckover clearly has a ton of fun making brutal nods to classic Christmas films like Home Alone.
Though Better Watch Out didn't make much of a dent upon original release in 2016, it's grown a cult fandom over the years for good reason. It's an expectation-defying, expertly crafted, and brilliantly acted riff on an incredibly familiar idea.
