Thanos is one of the most powerful villains in all of comic books (well, at least when you're discounting the truly abstract cosmic and godlike entities that exist in such universes) and one of the most popular. Since his first appearance in Iron Man #55 back in 1973, he has terrorised Marvel's heroes in ways that very few villains can claim to have done. Known as the Mad Titan - having been born on Saturn's moon of the same name - he is renowned for having an obsession with both the concept of death and the "female" character who embodies that very concept of death in the Marvel universe. Having also appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently - and having been set up as the future big bad of the franchise - his profile and popularity has risen, so what better time to devote an article to him? Dishonourable Mention: He Had A Helicopter...

...and it was called the "Thanos Copter". Yeah, really. It had the Mad Titan's name emblazoned on the side and it appeared in a single issue (Spidey Super Stories #39) entitled "Who will get the Cosmic Cube?" back in 1979. And now on to the actual list...
