Scott Snyder is, as the saying goes, the writer Batman deserves, but not the one he needs right now. For five years Snyder has breathed new life into Batman, approaching the task with both a sense of exploration and a respect for history.

His first Bat-gig was a stint on Detective Comics in 2011, which was followed by the Gates of Gotham miniseries, and now his bestselling New 52 Batman series will be at its end with issue #51.

For all the epic scope Snyder has brought to the character, his Batman stories have always been built on fantastic single moments. The following are the very best of those moments, the kind that give you a little shock from the comic page.

22. Batman #25: Bat Hod Rod

This gaudy monstrosity of a Batmobile certainly captures the swagger of Snyder’s 'Zero Year' vigilante.

The police have a tunnel blocked off, with a renegade Batman inside. Unfortunately for the bloodthirsty cops, Batman happens to be driving this violet and gold Bat-roadster that can cling to ceilings. It's cool enough to make you want to like cars.
