Warning - If you read Ultimate Spider-Man and don't want to find out what happens then press back on your browser and go read another of the brilliant articles on this site! There are spoilers here...you have been warned. A few weeks ago Marvel did something horrific and killed off their Ultimate version of Peter Parker. It was a shock to read but, admittedly, he did go out with one hell of a bang. Sacrificing himself to his arch nemesis the Green Goblin in order to protect the ones that he loves, I must admit it was one of the best 'ultimate' story lines i have ever read. So if you haven't read it go and get the back issues or wait for the graphic novel. It is really worth it. Now around the time that this story arc was revealed it was also announced that someone would be taking up the mantle of the spider after Parker's courageous demise and, thanks to the wonders of Comic Con, we learnt that the reveal would be in the up coming issue Ultimate Fallout #4. Many believe the replacement to be Ben Reilly, who in the Ultimate universe is not Peter's clone but a black lab assistant to Dr Conners who later creates the clones of our web headed friend. But everyone who thought that was dead wrong. May I introduce to you, thanks to USA Today, Miles Morales... A half black half hispanic teenager that will be replace Peter Parker as Spider-Man and who represents a fantastic step forward towards a more diverse superhero future. Writer Michael Brian Bendis said;
"The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility. He's going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means. It's certainly long overdue. Even though there's some amazing African-American and minority characters bouncing around in all the superhero universes, it's still crazy lopsided."
Marvel Editor in Chief Axel Alonso said;
"What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who's reflective of our culture and diversity. We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker."
As of yet we have no idea how Miles connects with Peter Parker or even how he became the new Ultimate Spider-Man but,with the release of the new Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man Issue 1, hitting the shelves in September, we don't have to wait long.
