Book: Rachel Rising # 7Written By: Terry MoorePencils By: Terry MoorePublisher: Abstract StudioRelease Date: OUT NOW IN STORES & DIGITAL DOWNLOAD (VIA COMIXOLOGY)Rating: After the events of issues 1-6, Terry Moore could have been forgiven if this seventh issue repeated the key points of Rachel Rising in the hope new readers could find an entry point into this blossoming tale but instead he opts for adding further depth to the mysteries unfolding in this fantastic new series. Beginning with some very peculiar moments with talking snow as well a strangers weird chatting with Rachel as she visits the hospital, issue seven feels delightfully odd very quickly. Moving on, we're introduced to Detective Corpell, who as standard procedure is investigating the car accident from the previous issue. Talking to Rachel while visiting her injured Aunt Johnny, there's a sense this detective will play a bigger part in the story going forward. He picks up on the small things that are stranger about the accident and Rachel herself and seems to be an indication of where this this story arc might be heading as outsiders begin to question what's going on with Rachel? This is followed by a curve ball in the tale, that adds to the zombie-ish set up of the story but I won't mention what it is exactly as it offers up quite an intriguing surprise. I will say that it does come out of quite a tender scene (which initially felt like it was going to go somewhere the opposite of tender). Actually, this issue has a couple of quite touching moments that makes the characters even more enjoyable to be around, another element Moore does so well in his books. Despite all the greatness of this chapter it's the explosive cliffhanger that really gets this story heading somewhere. Again, I won't say what it is as I don't want to ruin any surprises but Terry Moore conjures up some imagary that I don't think I've seen the likes of before really. Across the last couple of pages of this issue he pulls a fair few 'WTF??!" moments and the weirdness we're left with is enough to make the wait for issue #8 a real killer. I'm glad to report that Rachel Rising keeps the strength of the set up from previous instalments going into this new issue. Terry Moore, once again provides a comic that flows perfectly (and is over too damn soon) and offers up art work I could stare at all day. This one certainly broadens the scope of the story a little more and offers up a couple of elements that will no doubt day play bigger parts going forward . The mystery is deepening, the weirdness if getting weirder and the story's solid development means that Rachel Rising is fast becoming the highlight of my comic reading month. Oh and I have to say, I love the cover art this month too.
