Chuck Palahniuk has revealed that he is writing a sequel to his 1996 bestseller, Fight Club, and that it will take the form of a comic book mini-series. The sequel, which Palahniuk announced during the Ode to Nerds panel discussion at last weekends Comic-Con International, will pick up Jack and Marlas story 10 years after the events of the first book when Tyler Durden supposedly died.
"It will of course be dark and messy," Palahniuk said. "Nowadays, Tyler is telling the story, lurking inside Jack, and ready to launch a comeback. Jack is oblivious. Marla is bored. Their marriage has run aground on the rocky coastline of middle-aged suburban boredom. It's only when their little boy disappears, kidnapped by Tyler, that Jack is dragged back into the world of Mayhem."
The novel was a sleeper hit until David Fincher turned it into the iconic 1999 film starring Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden, Ed Norton as Jack, and Helena Bonham Carter as Marla. Since then both the book and film have become cultural touchstones and made Palahniuk a hugely successful novelist. Palahniuk has met publishers like Marvel and DC, though he has yet to make a deal, and wont until the script is completed. Unfortunately due to Palahniuks publishing contract, its unlikely Fight Club fans will see the series appear until 2015, though he thinks publishing in single issues might see the story appear before then. Currently, Palahniuks next book will be another sequel, Doomed, the follow-up to 2011s Damned and will be published on 8 October this year. Also on the publishing schedule is Beautiful You, a mash-up of mommy porn and chick lit due in 2014, and Make Something Up, a collection of short stories out in 2015. What do you think of the news?
