It was announced at Fan Expo Toronto that writer Geoff Johns (Green Lantern, Justice League) and artist David Finch (Batman: The Dark Knight) will be teaming up on the new Justice League of America title. When the DC New 52 launched last August, Justice League was the first book released and featured the core team of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. This caused some concern among comic fans because Martian Manhunter has traditionally been the seventh founding member. Whereas Cyborg has long been associated with the Teen Titans. In fact, Justice League #8 featured a story about Green Arrow trying to join the League. In that story, we find out that The Manhunter had tried out for the team, but something went terribly wrong. It is depicted in a beautiful two-page splash and has not been brought up since. The new title will feature J'onn J'onzz along with Steve Trevor, Catwoman, Green Arrow, Katana, Hawkman, Vibe, a new Green Lantern named Baz and Geoff Johns's own creation Stargirl. It seems that this book will be tied into Justice League International in some way as Johns co-wrote the JLI Annual with JLI writer Dan Didio. I am looking forward to the book because I love Johns's writing and Finch is a pretty good artist. Plus, I am interested to find out more about Manhunter's Justice League tryout and the new Green Lantern. This will make five Green Lanterns of Earth. Seems a bit overkill to me, but I'm interested to find out his backstory. And Catwoman in the Justice League? That's seems weird. The book is set to be released sometime early in 2013. And will likely replace a newly cancelled title as DC seems obsessed with keeping their 52 titles. My money is on The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men.
