10 Bold Predictions For Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3 And Beyond

And now for the wilder guesswork surrounding the MCU's future.

Recently, here at WhatCulture, we brought you a great article about ten things we expect to happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the coming movie instalments. Most of the entries in that list are as good as certain to happen, as they've been hinted at, foreshadowed, explicitly stated as happening or because the contracts of the actors in question give the game away. But what about the things we're less sure of? Wouldn't it be fun to speculate a bit further ahead as well? Of course it would! Marvel, as a company, possess thousands of characters, items, locations and story arcs that could be transferred from the pages of the iconic comic books to the big screen, so it really is anyone's guess what will happen in the long run. But, based on the popularity of certain entities in the comics and the demands of the viewing fans, it's reasonable to make some educated guesses about what might happen in the long term. With that in mind, let's take a more speculative look at what may lie ahead in the ever-expanding live action world of Marvel. Here are ten speculative predictions about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (note that this article may contain what you might consider to be spoilers from recent movies)...

10. Doctor Strange's Magic WILL Actually Be Magic

So far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, any "magic" we've been shown has simply been explained away as being science that is currently beyond the realms of Earth's understanding. Thor's hammer, Loki's illusions and the powers of the likes of Kurse and Malekith all stem from scientific sources and the recent name-dropping of Stephen Strange in the new Captain America movie has led some people to believe that he will be given a more "scientific" makeover when it comes to the source of his powers. That's something that probably won't end up happening. Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when Strange is likely to be introduced, will signify a new era in the continuity that will introduce magic as we know it from the comics. It's hard to see how Doctor Strange's rogues gallery - which includes the likes of Dormammu - could possibly be explained as being entities whose powers are science-based. Consequently, you should expect Doctor Strange - Earth's most well-known Sorcerer Supreme in the comics - to be an actual sorcerer with powers that the likes of Tony Stark and Bruce Banner simply can't explain.
