We knew straight away we were watching something special.

Opening a movie is never easy, especially when it comes to horror, as it's tempting to start things off with creative violence or over-the-top gore to leave a big impression from the get-go.

Of course, this practice can come across as forced or gimmicky, and for this reason, slashers, paranormal thrillers, and gothic folk tales may focus more on character development in the beginning, saving the best scares for later. Unfortunately, taking the slow approach can cause interest to wane before things really get going. As such, filmmakers must find a perfect balance with how to kick things off.

Although a picture shouldn't be judged based entirely on its prologue, the entries on this list let us know we were in for a good (and terrifying) time straight away. Whether opening with a fascinating premise, a tantalising jump scare, or an intriguing villain, these films immediately made you aware you were in safe hands.

Even though we've already done 10 Horror Movies You Knew Would Be Good After The First 10 Minutes and 10 MORE Horror Movies You Knew Would Be Good After The First 10 Minutes, we've now found even more horror movies that are sure to leave anyone enraptured within the first ten minutes.

10. The Voices

One unappreciated flick that fell between the cracks in 2014 is The Voices, starring Ryan Reynolds. In this horror-comedy, the Deadpool favourite plays called Jerry, a schizophrenic factory worker who's infatuated with his co-worker, Fiona (Gemma Arterton). Due to his condition, Jerry spends his time having imaginary conversations with his dog and cat, also voiced by Reynolds.

Watching Jerry being governed by his lively mutt and temperamental kitty highlights early on that he's not in control of his life (or his mind), and it's obvious he's on the cusp of a mental breakdown since the presence of Fiona is amplifying his neuroses.

Based on the wacky set-up, it's apparent The Voices won't play out like a conventional horror. Having said that, the psychological satire is far stranger, funnier, and grosser than anyone could imagine. It plays up the funny side of Jerry's predicament but never downplays his illness, which makes the story all the more tragic. As a result, people will find themselves laughing one moment, and gasping in terror the next.

Even though The Voices' first ten minutes make it clear this is going to be a unique experience, nobody could be truly prepared for what they're about to see.
