Captain Marvel, the final Marvel movie to release before Avengers: Endgame, broke $1 billion at the box-office the other week to become one of the highest-grossing superhero films of all time.

It's also only the first female-led film in the MCU's history though, and given how fans were waiting a long time for Marvel to finally divest from their all-male slate - as well as the fact it was genuinely great - it's understandable as to why Captain Marvel has proven to be such a mega-hit.

Despite only releasing about two months before the fourth Avengers film, Ana Boden and Ryan Fleck's film has quickly cemented itself as a significant release in the franchise. So much went into the MCU's 21st entry, and with that came a sheer determination to do right by Carol Danvers, a Marvel staple who - until the film's release - mainstream audiences weren't familiar.
