As far as truly great movies go, it was definitely a case of slim pickings in 2015. It seemed that for every decent film released there were 10 absolutely terrible ones right behind it, with a number of high profile flops and unexpected failures - the big budgeted Tomorrowland, Crimson Peak and Jupiter Ascending all made massive losses and the cheaper American Ultra, Pan and Self/Less grossed even less than they cost to make, never mind advertise. Blackhat was a misfire, The Gunman was awful, Mortdecai was painful... the list goes on, and it is not pleasant reading. The year actually started and ended strongly, with a number of its best films being released in January and December, though the ten months between were marred with endless non-starters, oases in a desert of thoroughly forgettable movies. But what of the chosen few, those rare films from 2015 that didn't leave you bemoaning the loss of two hours of your life? Well, even they weren't perfect. Not that perfection is a necessity if a film is to be considered brilliant (as the following 10 films prove hands down), but in a year when the title of best film was as up for grabs as it ever has been, you would have expected one of the big hitters to weigh in with something flawless. From continuity and factual errors to poor geography and gaping plot holes, it seems even the best in the business are capable of making mistakes...
