10 Horror Movies That Brutally Punish Your Curiosities

Curiosity killed far more than just the cat.

As the old saying goes, curiosity killed the cat.

In the case of horror movies, you can replace said cat with people, with mankind, or, in some extreme cases, with general existence as we know it.

While so many of the terrifying acts seen in horror movies can often be chillingly put down to randomness or being in the wrong place at the wrong time, there are those other terrifying acts that happen because people couldn't help but give in to their own curious nature.

In this instance, brutality and/or death could've been avoided if a character had simply not been so nosey, had not been so intrusive, had not been so eccentric, and had not been looking to shake things up and stir the pot.

The world of horror cinema is brimming with such cases, with numerous characters getting themselves into a pickle merely because they wanted to explore something new or push the boundaries of curiosity just a smidge too far. And it's on those buffoons that the attention is on here, as it's time to put the spotlight on ten horror figures who ended up suffering traumatic fates that could've easily been avoided if they'd only kept their nose out.

10. Digging Up The Marrow

From the Hatchet franchise's Adam Green, 2014's Digging Up the Marrow puts Green in front of the camera as a fictionalised version of himself as he sets off to make a documentary about artwork featuring monsters.

Once Green gets a call from retired detective William Dekker (the ever-brilliant Ray Wise), he decides to switch the focus of his film to Dekker and his claims of having proof that monsters really do exist.

As Digging Up the Marrow progresses, we, like the Green character, are left in two minds over whether or not Dekker is telling the truth or if, instead, he's some unhinged loon desperate to get some time in the spotlight.

Unfortunately for Adam Green and his interest in monsters, Digging Up the Marrow sees him and his cameraman aggressively assaulted by some unknown creature, with the pair left running for their lives. By the time the movie ends? We're shown Green being attacked in his home by a monster, as the picture wraps up and leaves his fate ambiguous.

Of course, the concern of anyone going monster hunting should always be what exactly would happen should you be successful in your hunt.
