10 MCU Characters Who Need To Be Rebooted
These may be familiar faces, but they're in desperate need of a reboot in the MCU!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off with Iron Man in 2008, and it's expanded in ways fans could have never imagined in the twelve years which have followed. Avengers: Endgame served as a culmination of that, and with Phase 4 looming, it's clear things will soon get even bigger (especially as the MCU expands to the small screen courtesy of Disney+).
It goes without saying that characters from the worlds of the X-Men and Fantastic Four will soon receive the reboot treatment courtesy of Marvel Studios, but how many other familiar faces should Kevin Feige and his team look at taking another crack at? Well, there are a fair few, but this lot have already shown up in the MCU...they just need to be overhauled after the ball was dropped the first time around!
Whether the wrong actor was cast the first time around or the creative team just screwed up how they were portrayed, there's a lot that can be done with these heroes and villains as a new era of the MCU begins. With that in mind, this feature explores both how they can be brought back, where they could appear, and what sort of impact each of them would have on this shared world.
It's even looking quite likely that some of these returns could happen over the next few years...
10. Odin
Anthony Hopkins was an amazing Odin, but he stepped down from the role in Thor: Ragnarok, and that appeared to be the end of the character's story in the MCU. Simply put, that's just not good enough.
In The Mighty Thor comic books, Odin frequently clashes both with his son and Jane Foster, and the fact we're not going to get to see that on the big screen when Thor: Love and Thunder rolls around a few years from now is a real shame. With that in mind, why not find a way to bring him back from the dead? After all, Asgardians do frequently die and later return in the comics, so it wouldn't be a stretch.
If that's not going to work for Marvel Studios, then there is another way to "reboot" the character. Introduce the future King Thor character from Jason Aaron's run and give him Odin's role in the MCU.
Either way, definitely expect to see a different actor in the role as they would be required to deliver a lot more physicality than Hopkins ever did (especially if Aaron's run is set to serve as inspiration).
