10 More Great Actors Trapped In AWFUL Horror Movies
These stars would agree that the most frightening thing about these films is their quality.
Horror is a fantastic genre, able to get viewers taking cover under a blanket or cowering into a loved one. When done right, these movies can leave an impression on pop culture for decades. Some great examples of this include Alien, The Shining, and Jaws, which was even able to make an entire generation afraid of the ocean.
However, even with a talented star, it is perhaps one of the easiest genres to get wrong. Whether it’s down to sloppy material, a lacking director or a shoestring budget, a horror film can quickly become a cringey and embarrassing mess, making it hard to watch for all the wrong reasons.
But this doesn’t mean our leading lads and ladies don’t put their all in; many prominent actors got their start in small-budget horror flicks, working their way up the ladder to their stardom we know today. And some are existing actors who just wound up in an unfortunate situation.
So, with Halloween right around the corner, it’s time we look at some of the greatest stars and their genuinely awful horror movies.
10. Olivia Cooke – Ouija
Olivia Cooke is currently receiving a tremendous amount of well-earned praise for her role as Queen Alicent in the hit series House of The Dragon, but when we look back at some of her past roles, it is not all sunshine and rainbows.
In 2014, she had the lead role as Laine Morris in Ouija, the first film in the Ouija series, which focuses on a group of friends playing with the infamous Ouija board and awakening ancient evil spirits.
Although the film was a commercial success, it received many mixed reviews from fans and was slaughtered by critics.
They sighted that one of its main downfalls was the average plot, which consisted of silly characters making rage-inducing mistakes. It worked as a fairly run-of-the-mill horror movie with a few decent scares along the way but with nothing too memorable or exciting.
In all fairness to Cooke, she gave a good performance as the star, but the material was just not there.
