10 Movie Stunts That Went Horribly Wrong
When movie magic got movie tragic.
We all love it when a movie gets our heart racing with excitement - whether it's those cool explosions in the Die Hard series, the awesome martial arts in any Jackie Chan film or the way James Bond is able to casually ride away in an extreme car chase sequence.
However, many of us don't give an afterthought for those involved in the action that usually comes across so seamlessly real on screen. Filming a movie stunt takes careful planning, lots of rehearsals, and plenty of precautions in order for everything to flow smoothly without someone getting hurt. And after all, you've got to be a very brave person to put yourself at potential risk of being seriously hurt or even killed when performing a stunt.
Unfortunately, even with all the security measures put in place, movie sequences don't always go as planned and it can sadly lead to an awful aftermath. Whether it's the celebrities bravely doing their own moves or a stunt double filling in for them, the following people either had a narrow escape from fatality in their films or were very tragically subjected to major consequences.
10. Isla Fisher Almost Drowns - Now You See Me
A film about four extreme performing illusionists is bound to run into some problems on set and this time, it was Isla Fisher's near death experience drowning.
In the movie, the stage performer Henley Reeves has an act which involves an escape from being eaten alive by vicious piranhas, only to emerge alive in the crowds once the tank has turned red with 'blood'. Although she doesn't usually do her own stunts, Isla complied with being chained into the tank.
The top of the tank remained opened incase Fisher needed to go up for air, and there was also an emergency lever inside, which she could pull to alert crew if she needed help. But the chains she was attached to got stuck to the bottom and Isla couldn't swim to the top for help. She screamed for help underneath the water - but the producers thought it was all part of the act because her character is meant to look scared and under pressure.
Thankfully, one stunt coordinator clocked on that she was really drowning when he noticed the handcuffs were stuck. Fisher was stuck for a total of three minutes underwater and any longer could have been deadly.
