10 Movie Villains Totally Ruined In The Sequels

Creating a movie villain that's more than your typical moustache-twirler sure isn't easy, and so it's little surprise that when filmmakers come up with a genuinely compelling antagonist who strikes a chord with fans, they're not particularly eager to let them go after just one movie.

But with the law of diminishing returns being what it is for sequels, it's incredibly difficult to have a returning villain match or exceed their presence in the original movie, and more often than not it results in fans feeling rather underwhelmed.

Each of these 10 antagonists effectively stole the movies they made their cinematic debut in, perhaps even wrestling the glory away from the hero.

But by returning for at least one sequel (if not more), they became desperately watered-down by the fan service-infused demands of franchise filmmaking, not to mention writers who lost track of the character's very essence.

Above all else, these bungled villains are proof that if you're going to bring a beloved antagonist back, you need to be really sure that it's worth it dramatically, or risk tarnishing a screen icon forever more...
